Seeing the Mission up close

By Torrie Gregg

Before I began working at the Catholic Foundation for Diocese of Salina, I never gave much thought to what it took to provide many of the programs and ministries in our diocese. Events were held, sacraments were offered, and I didn’t think much about the time, prayer, and resources required behind the scenes to make all of it possible.

The truth is, these ministries have always been present in my life. What has changed is my awareness of what it takes to sustain them.

Programs like Totus Tuus and Prayer and Action helped shape my faith as a student, and I was honored enough to work those programs for three summers during college. Catholic education played an important role in giving me a well-rounded foundation, both academically and spiritually. Priests took the time to guide me, challenge me, and help me grow in prayer and in my relationship with Christ.

Now, working closely with the ministries of our diocese, I see more clearly how intentional and interconnected this work truly is.

I see couples celebrating milestone anniversaries at Masses hosted by our Family Life Office — a beautiful witness
to the vocation of marriage. I see seminarians at the very beginning of their formation and later, years down the road, as they approach ordination — growing in wisdom, humility, and readiness to serve God’s people. I see priests who continue to walk with parishioners through moments of joy, grief, and deep faith.

What I have come to understand is that the Bishop’s Annual Appeal supports far more than individual programs. It sustains the mission of the Church as a whole. It helps ensure that ministry continues not just where it is visible, but where it is quietly needed most.

I want to encourage you to reflect on the ways the Church has shaped your own life. Perhaps through a parish, a program, a priest, or a moment of encounter with Christ and how your generosity helps make those moments possible for others across our diocese.

Please prayerfully consider making a gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Gifts can be made online at join.givecfds.org or mailed to the Catholic Foundation for Diocese of Salina, PO Box 1696, Salina, KS 67402. Other giving options, including stock, IRA distributions, gifts of grain, and donor advised funds, are also available. Questions may be directed to 785-827-8746 or torrie.gregg@salinadiocese.org.

Thank you for the many ways you support the Church through your prayers, your service, and your generosity. It is a privilege to see how our diocesan family continues to carry this mission forward together.
